In this first unit, we are exploring the various parts that make up the person I meet in class. You are teenager and student but what else defines you? Ethnicity, religion, language, interests, past experiences, and future goals all impact the person I see. Most of the time, we do not think about these types of things. When we look in the mirror, its just to make sure our hair and outfit are on point. This unit asks you to look a little deeper and begin to think about how you have ended up where you are.
How I See Myself assignment
Begin to think about the different roles that you play in your life. Son/Daughter, teenager, and student. Perhaps, brother/sister? Church/Youth Group member? Basketball player? Gamer? Artist? Even if you don't think about it, you behave a little differently in these roles. You have different expectations and you have different people to help you if you need it. Complete the assignment below by thinking about the different personality traits and characteristics that define you in your various roles. The worksheet is downloadable and printable below on the left. On the right, you can see the directions and examples that we looked at in class.
Create a timeline of some important events in your life. Think of this as a highlight reel of your life so far and be thinking about how these events have shaped you as a person. They could be good or bad (we have all had ups and downs both). Maybe there was a really great year you had in elementary/middle school. Maybe there was an awesome birthday you had. Maybe you took a vacation somewhere. Maybe you moved. Reflect back and think about where you have been. Follow the directions posted and/or linked below.
Using some of the thinking that you have been doing about yourself, make a collage (bunch of pictures) that describe who you are. This will require you to use some of the personality traits/characteristics you placed on your tree in the first assignment and add in some goals for your future. Remember, we want pictures that represent the words so you may need to be creative. Make sure that you use the blue "Share" button in Google Slides to forward it to me when you are done. This assignment asks you to think a little more about those goals that you set for yourself in the last assignment. Considering the last two slides you created (goals for the year and hopes for the future), you need to come up with 5 overall goals. For each one, describe how you intend to accomplish it, who can help you get there, and find a song that matches your goal.
The point of this assessment is to get you to put together the pieces of every daily assignment that we have done in this current unit. We have done a great deal of thinking about who you are, where you came from, what good and bad influences you face and what goals you have for yourself moving forward. The first item below contains detailed instructions for completing the assignment. The second item below is a model to follow. It is something that I created about myself to show you what I am sort of expecting.
